Matt Adams Wins National Excellence in Litigation Award
Matt Adams, legal director of Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, has been named recipient of the 2008 Jack Wasserman Memorial Award, given annually by the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) in recognition of “excellence in litigation in the field of immigration law.” Adams will receive the recognition at the upcoming AILA Annual Conference in Vancouver, Canada.
Adams has spent virtually his entire legal career at Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, one of the largest immigration legal services organizations in the country. In his role as legal director and head of NWIRP’s Impact Litigation Unit, he has successfully litigated cases before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals , as well as federal district courts throughout Washington, establishing federal case law on behalf of immigrants threatened with deportation.
According to Jorge L. Barón, NWIRP’s newly named Executive Director, “Matt’s dedication, tenacity, and incredible legal expertise and litigation skills have helped thousands of immigrants and their families receive justice through the law, Furthermore, “he continued, “Matt Adams can also be credited with mentoring a whole new generation of litigators in the field of immigration law through his work at NWIRP.” In 2005 the Washington State AILA chapter recognized Adams for his litigation acumen with its “most significant impact on pro bono litigation” award. The Washington State Access to Justice Board also recently recognized Adams with its annual Leadership Award at its June 2008 session in Vancouver.
